Luxury paid public toilet at Akihabara draws crowds

TOKYO, Japan - A luxury paid public toilet built at the new Akihabara shopping district in Tokyo is doing good business, drawing more than 30,000 customers in just half a year. The toilet, which has 160 square meters of floor space and features changing rooms and a computer corner with access to the Internet , is said to be popular with both tourists and trendy youths. Officials of Chiyoda Ward, which built the toilet adjacent to the JR Akihabara Station, say the changing rooms inside the toilet are particularly popular with ''costume play'' teenage girls who use the facility to change into maid uniforms or other trendy costumes for play. The fee is 100 yen per person, and free of charge for people with physical disabilities and pre-high school students.

MANILA, Philippines - Onel de Guzman (L), a 23-year-old Filipino computer student who could be the author of the ''Love Bug'' virus that crippled computer e-mail systems worldwide, meets the press in Manila on May 11. He neither confirmed nor denied he wrote or unleashed the program. He did admit he had prepared a thesis proposal, ''Email Password Sender Trojan,'' but he stressed that because the project was rejected by his computer school, he did not develop it further.
